    COVENANT 2015

March sees the return of Covenant, whose last show for us was simply amazing.

Covenant’s show in 2011 (the last time they toured the UK) impressed many people and we’re bigger and better for a 2015 tour.
Covenant hit up Newcastle University on March 5th – so if you thought the show was great last time they’ve got a bigger stage, bigger lights and a bigger performance.
This is a rare chance to see Covenant. This will only be their second Newcastle show and they are an impressive live band, with a massive array of club hits and classic tracks, including ‘We Stand Alone’, ‘Ritual Noise’ and ‘Dead Stars’ – and that’s not forgetting their stunning recent album, ‘Leaving Babylon’.

Support comes from excellent Scottish synth act Analog Angel, also playing their second Newcastle show (and they haven’t been here since 2012). The show will be opened by Naked Lunch – a band who were one of the real movers and shakers of the early 80s synth break through.

Tickets are available from www.seetickets.com and locally from Reflex Records.

    Here’s a little video of them :

  • Skeletal Family – playing at Charnel House in March

    skeletalfamilyExciting news people.

We’ve been hinting about some Gothic legends coming to Charnel House – well – here is the news.

On March 7th, we’ll have a special acoustic performance from Skeletal Family.

This is fairly big news, the band recently played at the Academy and have done many high profile shows since their return, but they’re doing a very special stripped down acoustic tour, which includes playing as part of The Charnel House, in Butlers, in March.

Famed for hits such as ‘Promised Land’, ‘So Sure’ and ‘She Cries Alone’ it will certainly be interesting to hear how these classics and others transcribe onto an acoustic set up.

As previously, we do need to increase the entry fee on this night to accommodate the extra costs of putting on a band – but we’ve crunched our calculators and managed to keep this down to £5 – that’s a fixed £5 regardless of whether you buy in advance or pay on the door.  We know some people like advance tickets, so these are available – otherwise just come along and pay on the night.

If you want advance tickets – you can nab them from Reflex Records, www.seetickets.com or why not get one off us on Feb 7th at Charnel House (at Butlers) or Feb 14th at Dark Nation (at the Globe) ?

Here’s a classic of there’s for you to enjoy 😀

  • Kev’s 2014 albums of the year

As I’m sure you know – each year Kev likes to list his top 20 albums of the year.  Picked across a broad sense of the so-called Shwarze-Szene that includes everything from Goth, Post-Punk, EBM, Industrial, Gothic-Metal, etc. it doesn’t include out and out rock and metal hence the absence of bands like The Marmozets and Beartooth (and he wasn’t quite sure where to place Pvris despite them often being played on his show)

This is the list, if there’s someone there you don’t know – why not check them out? As always these are present in a podcast which you can listen to here

Entry is £4, although free entry after 11pm if you miss the bands, but why would you miss the bands?!

    Performing live they’ve got :

QUAL – debut live performance and solo project of William from Lebanon Hanover (whom we love!)

The Anxiety of Love – Gothic no-wave from Leeds, well liked and loved

    Transfigure – local minimal electronics

Certainly worth a look if you’re not in Whitby for Fields of the Nephilim.
